Butterfly Effect

Each smallest act of kindness, reverberates across great distances and spans of time —affecting lives unknown to the one who’s generous spirit was the source of this good echo.” ~ Dean Koontz

Since my last post, we celebrated Easter…

Easter

There seems to be a theme developing in these photos… And the limited few weeks of perfect spring weather have come and gone. Once again we scramble and get as much done as possible before the strawberry and green heads (flies) return to feast on our flesh as we melt under a hot summer sun.

Retreating indoors is worse. The dark news on the TV casts a gray shadow of gloom and doom which reaches out and grabs hold of everything — terrorists and politicians that are doing their best to destroy our country, an abortion doctor who’s trial isn’t news because its not politically correct enough, tornadoes, flash flooding and wild fires leaving a wake of destruction and loss of life.

It’s easy to get lost in the darkness. I am witness to God’s palette and know that HE wants us to live in color. It’s an insult to Him to live in the shadows when He has created so many colors.

June is a special month at The Fairfield House and we’d like you to be part of it! A Christening, Graduation and birthdays fill our calendar. My mother will be celebrating her 80th! Few of you know that my mother lives with us. Fewer still know that she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. She was the old woman I wrote about in this poem. The move to the Fairfield House and her illness has left her with little company beyond us, depression and loneliness.

My mother has always loved butterflies. (This is where you can be a part of her special day.) I’m requesting that you make a paper butterfly (it can be as plain or fancy as you like — the beauty is that they will all be different, as each of us are) and mail it to me. I need it by June 25th so that gives you two weeks. I am hoping to receive at least 80 butterflies but the more, the better. Imagine my mother’s surprise when she wakes up on her birthday to find this beautiful butterfly migration! Imagine how you will feel knowing you’ve added color to a fading spirit. Feel free to write a birthday message on your creation. Send to: The Fairfield House, PO Box 69, Fairton, NJ, 08320, USA

What a Beautiful way to View Life and Love. I do sit in the darkness at times but It is the Color that brings me out. And the Colors are in so many People. I believe with just few exceptions people are good and Jesus tells me to Forgive and Love and I try. And it wasn’t until I really starting reading your words or your color that I truly understand Forgiveness, Love Friendship a Nurturing Soul. And Your Mother Oh Deborah I see a rainbow of colors in her. To see,to touch to talk too, even though I know how hard it must be.I wish Everyone We can touch will send Your Sweet Mother a Color of Butterflies…
    Forever Deborah on the Porch

You made me smile and tear. This post has such a lovely message. You are such a beautiful person and knowing that the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree, I hope your mother receives every bit (and then some) of those 80 butterflies. What an awesome thing to do for her. I know the loneliness and depression of Alzheimer’s all too well and what a smile it brings to think of her reaction to the butterflies. Will be sending three shortly…a perfect project for the kids with an even bigger lesson. Love, Jami

Oh dear. I am working today, packing tomorrow and getting on a plane early Friday. Perhaps you can resurrect the butterflies I sent last year. ???

We are planning on going to the anthro company store TERRAIN in Philly next Wednesday. They have a lunch spot. Perhaps an outing might do you both good???? Hint Hint.

I’m at a loss for words here, Deborah.
I knew we had similarities in our lives, but now I know there is definitely a connection between us that cannot be denied.
My mother had Alzheimer’s, also. This cruel disease took her beautiful life six years ago…and I will never forget those years before her final days.
You, my friend, are an amazing daughter to do something this wonderful for your mother.
It will be an honor for me to create something very special for her.
    Count me in!!!!
    Much love to you-
    Lisa xoxo

Deborah, this is such a loving and touching gift that you are going to give your mother! I hope her spirit soars when she sees her butterflies! My mother lives with us, too, and she is 90. Luckily, her mind is clear but her eyesight has deteriorated terribly. I will share your project on my FB page.
